I've now uploaded a revised version of the Inform application to <http://www.logicalshift.co.uk/etc/Inform-dev.zip 
 > that incorporates many of the changes suggested in this thread. In  
particular: you can now scroll up and down through the source by  
clicking on the 'tears'; the level selector now goes by heading depth  
instead of tree depth; and there are now various messages to explain  
why the view isn't showing anything.

I've tweaked a few things so there's now a bit more polish: undo  
should now be working properly, and clicking on errors should now move  
the displayed section.

I still need to fix the display issue that occurs when an edit is made  
across the boundary of the displayed range, and I'd like to add  
keyboard and VoiceOver navigation to the control at some point as well.
